UMKC POLISCI-210

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.
When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.
This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution

This amendment outlines how the Senate is to be composed-2 from each State, regardless of population or state size with a lasting term of 6 years and must meet all prerequisites and when vacancies happen, all must be done to fill vacancies. Until this amendment is come to terms with the Constitution, it will effect no election beforehand.

So the Tea Party thinks the power of the people given to elect the Senator in the same manner they elect the President of the United States is too much power in the people. The Senators were once chosen by the Legislation. "Don't tread on me just don't take away my vote." mentality. I don't know much about the tea party but taking any power away from the people is going to give so much more power to the government, an act not meant to happen in the sense that there should be balance. But is that ever something present?

The 17th amendment was believed to be a good way to make bribery into office diminish yet it still to this day happens a lot. It takes much more effort in bribing many more people than just a single legislator like it is outlined in the Articles, yet most if not all politicians by the corrupt sterotype, are willing to give bribes in exchange for votes.
