UMKC POLISCI-210

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.
Section 2. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several states within seven years from the date of its submission to the states by the Congress.

The limit of Presidency is two four year terms and they must be consecutive and any that were not voted into Presidency, yet acted as Commander in Chief cannot have but one term. This amendment was not meant to scare any current President on changing the term he currently resides in; merely making way for the future. The amendment shall be void unless ratified and accepted into the Constitution by a 3/4 majority vote within 7 years of its submission to the states.

I wholeheartedly believe in limit of term. One given the power too long is given too much power in any case. The two term limit I think can create more problems than fixes to any problems. Several Presidents had several terms to serve before the ratification of this amendment. American recognize good leaders...or are sheep and follow what is popular today. Many in political voting do not vote based on the issues but based on what they can understand is best, whether by their own volition or the convincing of another. Ensure a diverse and vibrant democracy in the US with limit of power that can very easily turn into a tyrannical democracy.

Is our government headed toward tyranny? Abuse of power? Too many terms? I'll admit that if one not given the chance of another term, some issues may not have been addressed correctly. But who is to say that the successor is able to do just as the previous president would have. All have equal trying in their hand at a presidency. What they do with that Presidency is up to them. And if they suck, well, we can impeach them if severely enough. Or we can wait and see if anything can be fixed.
