UMKC POLISCI-210

The Preamble:

We the People, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice and insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

This is an executive summary of the Constitution that embodies the ideals of free government. Law enforcement, representative government and equality all espouse the values of the establishment of justice. Domestic Tranquility is the idea that one can live independently, with relative prosperity (free of poverty), and that we can defend our rights and property. Having a standing military and promoting terrifs to protect our lives and value resources are ways that we can provide for our common defense. Healthcare, education, and countless other programs developed by our federal, state, and local governments are means to promote the nation's general welfare, and finally securing the blessings of liberty mean we're free all things lawful and just throughout the land without fear of reprisal or reprimand.

It is important to know and understand the Preamble and its meanings; it is the basic structure of the American Government as one must know how they are being governed and under what laws do they follow.

Why is it so important?
